Here's how to prepare Jamaican Bammy – crispy or soft

Bammy is a traditional flatbread made from cassava that can be prepared in many ways – whether crisply fried, steamed, grilled, or baked. Here we show you different ways to enjoy bammy!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Jamaican Bammy (IslandtoDoor)

  • Milk, water or coconut milk for soaking

  • 2 tablespoons of butter or vegetable oil for frying

Preparation:

  1. Cut the bammy in half.

  2. Soak the pieces in milk, water or coconut milk for about 1-5 minutes.

Option 1: Roast 

  • Heat a pan with butter or oil over medium heat.
  • Fry the bammy on each side for about 3-4 minutes until it is golden brown and crispy.

Option 2: Steaming

  • Steam Bammy for about 10 minutes in a steamer or over boiling water.

Option 3: Barbecue

  • Roast the Bammy directly on the grill for about 5 minutes per side, until it develops a light roasted aroma.

Option 4: Baking

  • Bake Bammy in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes, until the outside is slightly crispy.
